The Whole U program at the University of Washington has featured my weight loss and fitness story on their blog website! I am so honored to be part of that program and grateful they have published what I wrote so that it can give other people hope who are struggling with hypothyroid and weight problems. [Read more…]
Seattle Rock n Roll Half Marathon 6/21/14
This is the first time I have prepared for a race and to leave town from the airport on the same day. Michael’s 30th high school reunion in Southern California just happens to be the same day as the race. [Read more…]
14 Races in 2014
I saw several new year resolution follow ups on Facebook this week for 2013, some of which were talking about goals last year of running 13 races in 2013. Some people met their goal, others didn’t. [Read more…]
One Hour and 5 Miles Later … I’m a #MILF
I finished Week 4 Days 1 and 2 today back to back!! I was able to go 5.11 miles in an hour and 5 minutes!! I did not run it all non-stop, I followed the prompts on the app about half of the times the walking came up. My pace was slower over the second half hour, but I finished – and that is the furthest distance I have ever completed in one shot walking or running, and the fastest! [Read more…]
10K? Hot Wife? Kids Leaving and Vacations – Changes Everywhere!
I have had such a great running week that I honestly am considering signing up for the Iron Girl 10K in September. It is two laps around Green Lake, which I cannot even imagine being able to do right now, but a month from now … maybe … I am thinking seriously about it! [Read more…]
Week 3 Days 1, 2 & 3 of C25K with major milestones (figuratively and literally!)
August 7, 2012: It is not quite as hot, but still hot enough that running outside is exhausting so I got up really early to do this one. I actually did an experiment and just blew through most of the walk prompts to see if I could do it – and I pretty much did – yay! I slowed to a “wog” a few times but never actually walked 🙂 I started using another app called Jog Log with my iPhone because it tracks more stats. I don’t understand why the two apps have different results when I am using them both on the same phone … [Read more…]
I made a new running playlist
I have been playing around with iTunes trying to find the songs that will keep me happy, on pace, and motivated while I run. Some songs I have used I thought would work, but then when I am actually out running I want to skip over them. Music is very personal to me with a lot of connections to the past with memories and feelings. I am really picky about the lyrics, but not as much as the memories and feelings that come alive inside me when I hear certain songs. [Read more…]
Week 2 Day 3 of C25K and My First 5K Race!
I took a few days off because of the heat and I think my body also needed a break. This is going so well that I actually announced publicly on Facebook that I signed up for a 5K on August 26!! I have been thinking about trying to motivate myself more and having a solid public deadline to prepare for will help me stay focused. I signed up for the Alki Beach 5K and in honor of my mother-in-law Barbara because the race raises money for breast cancer research. [Read more…]
Week 2 Days 1 and 2 of Couch to 5K
July 31, 2012: After a day of rest, due to being QUITE sore, I went out again for Week 2 Day 1 of Couch to 5K.
This workout is 31 minutes, with a 5 minute warm up walk, then alternate 1.5 minutes of jogging and 2 minutes of walking for 21 minutes, then walk for 5 minutes for cool down. [Read more…]
